MLK
Cultural Horizons Club:
"LIFTING AS WE CLIMB"

"OUR LIVES BEGIN TO END THE DAY WE BECOME SILENT ABOUT
THINGS THAT MATTER"
The
MLK Cultural Horizons Club is designed to identify and develop
student leaders , while providing service to the school and
global community at large.
Dr. King prayed , worked for, and
envisioned the time when all should be judged by the content of
their character and not by the color of their skin. Here at SOMS
our club has a tradition of service, education, giving back and
recognizing those who have come before us.

Ladies!
Those who can...Teach
Those who care...Teach
To teach is to impart knowledge
or skill; to cause to learn by
example or experience.
It has been said that "Many are
called, but few are chosen."
This adage applies most
definitely to educators as a
whole, but could have been
coined specifically for all of
you who participated in
Saturday's Woman's Conference.
I cannot begin to tell you all
how much I appreciate your
participation and expertise.
There will be a comments section
on our website
www.mlkculturalclub.org
from our girls who attended the
conference next week. I think
you will be amazed at what our
young ladies had to say.
Knowledge is "POWER." Thanks
for sharing yours!
Until...

We support school
based organizations/clubs through donations and
work.
We donated $1,000.00 to the
School Play to help with equipment and
revitalization of Sterling Hall. We have held
Dances, Talent Shows, Fashion Shows, hosted the
Oranges/Maplewood NAACP ACT-SO TEAM.
MLK has a sister
school -
The
Chilulu School in Malawi, East Africa. We send
school supplies, clothing, and medication for
children with HIV/AIDS who were left orphaned. W
have been working with Chilulu since 1993.
The trees planted
around the school were done by the club in honor
of Arbor Day.
We have also
worked with organizations in town as
host/hostesses for programs. i.e. South Orange
Civic Association, South Orange Historical and
Preservation Society .
